FIBA: Gilas U16 avert Iran upset, settle for seventh

Gilas Pilipinas Boys Under-16 team made sure to end their FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship campaign on a high note, fending off a game Iran squad with a 95-87 triumph to finish in seventh place, Sunday at the Al-Gharafa Sports Club Multi-Purpose Hall in Doha, Qatar.

The Philippines ended its run with a 3-3 record, finishing with a 1-1 slate to end the elimination round.

Gilas Youth blasted Kazakhstan, 83-60, in the playoffs before bowing to Australia in the quarterfinals, 109–83.

The young Pinoys fell to rival South Korea yesterday, 88-77, to fall to the eighth-seventh classification phase game.

This is the Philippines’ worst finish in this age group’s continental meet. It’s previous worst was a fifth place finish during the 2015 edition of the tournament in Bangalore.
