Rosemarie Vargas’ return to the UAAP will have to wait, as it was announced earlier today that the hard-hitting open hitter will miss the entire first round of Season 80.
Speaking with Mac Dionisio of the Volleyball Reporter, FEU head coach George Pascua revealed that the 25-year old had suffered a muscle strain during a tune-up match.
Pascua expects Vargas to be ready by the start of the second round in March.
“Minor injury lang naman, pero kailangan ng time for full recovery,” said Pascua.
Vargas was slated to return from a near five-year absence from FEU and play out her final year of eligibility.
The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws have several ways to fill Vargas’ spot on the rotation with tested veterans. Pascua is confident that the remaining Lady Tamaraws can recover from this minor setback.
“Nagdedevelop naman na ‘yung chemistry ng mga players,” Pascua expressed.
“Hopefully, di makaapekto ‘yun psychologically sa mga natirang players.”
The Lady Tamaraws will open their campaign against the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on Sunday, February 4, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
