Philippine Azkals coach Josep Ferre is unsure whether his immediate future is connected with the Philippine Azkals.
Coming into the national team setup just a few weeks before the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 started, the Spaniard led the Philippines to fourth place in Group A with one win and three defeats.
Amidst the current circumstances, Ferre is unsure if he will be the man in charge when the Azkals return to action.
“By now, we will have to sit and talk,” he said. “There is nothing decided yet.
“By now, we will have to rest a little bit (which) everybody needs and then we will think, we will think.”
All coaches know that they are in a results business. At this day and age, instant wins tend to strengthen one’s resume and reputation.
Unfortunately for the 39-year-old Barcelona native, getting the Azkals into the final four of the competition for the first time since 2018 was just a task too difficult considering the limited time he had with them on the training ground.
If it were only up to him, though, he would like to continue in his post.
“But then (if) there is a chance to stay here, I am very happy here in the Philippines. All the people I’ve been working with (such as) players, staff, of course Dan Palami who have always been very nice to me,” he said.
“They gave me this opportunity to help the team so if there is a chance to stay, I would like (it).”
There are so many questions right now as to where the Azkals will go from here after another disappointing international campaign. Resolving Ferre’s future is the first thing to clarify as they seek to find a way to bring another period of success to the country.
