For her strong influence of the youth and deep love of the sport, Abigail Maraño was the top choice of the Philippine Superliga as the league’s newest ambassador.
Maraño, the star middle blocker of the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, was appointed the face of the league starting with the Chooks-to -Go/PSL Grand Prix, which starts on Saturday, October 21, at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
PSL president Ramon “Tats” Suzara lauded Maraño’s selection, saying that she may be a direct opposite of previous league ambassadors like Gretchen Ho, Cha Cruz, and Mika Reyes, but her growing base of fans and her love for volleyball made her a perfect fit for the role.
“Unlike Gretchen, Cha and Mika, Aby is very vocal and outspoken,” said Suzara. “Her influence, especially to the youth, is enormous and she had repeatedly displayed her love for the sport and loyalty to the league. That’s why we decided to formally tap her as the PSL ambassador for this year.”
Maraño is also a member of the national women’s team that campaigned in the recent AVC Asian Senior Women’s Championship. And it is her fearless approach in life that led her to this.
“I think I’m more vocal compared sa past ambassadors. You know naman me, whether it’s a fan or not a fan of volleyball or detractors, kahit sino basta alam kong mali at di tama ‘yung pinaglalaban,” expressed the 24-year-old, “Alam mo naman kung nasaan kami, nakalublob kami sa puno’t dulo ng volleyball. Sa tingin ko, may boses naman akong makapagsalita. Hindi ako natatakot magsalita for PSL and all the athletes.
“Mas fearless lang talaga ako.”
