Putting up a spirited fight, Gilas Pilipinas Girls still could not overcome Australia, falling in the semifinals of the 2019 FIBA 3X3 Under-18 Asia Cup, 12-15, Saturday afternoon in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
Down by as much as five points with 3:45 left in the game, 6-11, Angel Surada and Camille Clarin rallied the Philippines with a 3-0 spurt to go within striking range.
Georgia Amoore and Ruby Porter were able to get the points back, but Ella Fajardo kept Gilas afloat.
The Filipinas could not slice the lead down further, though. They were stuck with a 12-15 scoreline in the final 1:18 of the contest.
Fajardo paced Gilas with five markers, while Surada added four. Kristine Cayabyab and Clarin had two and one points, respectively.
Shyla Heal led the Aussies with six points.
The Philippines look to finish at the podium for the first time when it takes on China in the bronze medal match at 5:40 pm.
