Cavite and Cam Sur grabbed the early lead in the National Basketball League (NBL) Black Arrow Express-President’s Cup after being separate foes on Sunday at the Hoopla Gym, Angelis Resort in Muntinlupa City.
The Express beat the home team Muntinlupa Emeralds, 83-74, and the Ballers downed the Pasig El Pirata, 108-91, to gain 2-0 win-loss records in Group A of the 14-team homegrown league.
Ronn Romana had 21 points on 9 of 18 shooting from the field, and Jaymar Allarey had 12 points and six assists for the Express, who outscored the Emeralds, 29-12, in the third quarter to pull away.
Former Adamson cager Egie Boy Mojica scored 24 points, and Riordan Galicia had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the victory of the Ballers over the El Pirata.
In other matches last Saturday at the San Leonardo Gym, Juancho Tolentino scored 25 points, and Edgie Jejillos made 23 points including a late three to lift the home team Nueva Ecija Besprens to an 81-77 win over the Laguna Pistons.
JR Galit scored 17 points and Vincent Alvez had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Parañaque Aces to an 80-62 win over the Zamboanga Valientes.
The league takes a break for the 30th Southeast Asian Games and will resume play on December 14.
