Eumir Marcial remained unbeaten in the professional ranks after scoring a stunning third-round knockout of Omar Ulises Huerta on Sunday morning (Manila time) at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
Marcial needed just three rounds to stop Huerta, improving to 8-0 in his professional career while dropping the Mexican to 15-2-2.
The Olympic bronze medalist patiently worked his way into the fight before delivering the decisive blow with 1:44 remaining in the third round.
After getting tagged by Huerta, Marcial immediately fired back with a sharp right-hook counter that caught his opponent clean and sent him crashing to the canvas. Huerta was unable to recover, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Marcial had already shown flashes of his power in the opening two rounds.
Huerta was the more active fighter in the first, throwing more punches and keeping Marcial busy. However, Marcial landed the heavier blows, particularly to the body, whenever he managed to pin Huerta against the ropes.
The Filipino continued to produce the more significant offense in the second round, connecting with heavy punches and gradually making his power felt. Huerta attempted to answer with a late flurry, but Marcial absorbed the punches without appearing to be affected.
The victory marked Marcial’s first appearance since October 29, 2025, ending a lengthy layoff as he continued his unbeaten start to his professional career.
Now, it remains unclear whether Marcial will still be cleared to compete for Team Philippines in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
