Eumir Marcial had to overcome adversity in his third pro bout.
The reigning Summer Olympics bronze medalist needed to dig deep to take a unanimous decision over American prospect Steven Pichardo, Sunday (Manila time) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Early in the second round, an accidental clash of heads resulted in a cut just above the right eye of the 26-year-old native of Zamboanga.
Despite having blurry vision, Marcial was still able to connect with Pichardo.
“Medyo deep yung cut natin pero napanalo natin,” Marcial told Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas after getting a five-inch stitch.
Marcial went up to 3-0 while dropping Pichardo to 8-3-1.
In his first two bouts, Marcial defeated Andrew Whitfield via a unanimous decision back in December 2020 before following it up with a come-from-behind knockout win over Isiah Hart six months ago.
