Eumir Marcial has been receiving offers to turn professional since 2018.
And among those trying to lure the middleweight sensation away from the amateur ranks is the renowned Shelly Finkel.
Finkel, 75, has handled many greats such as Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, as well as Senator Manny Pacquiao during the mid-2000s.
Marcial, though, has clarified that his focus remains on helping the Philippines win its first Olympic gold medal in the postponed Tokyo Games.
His pro aspirations, therefore, will have to wait for a while. But since there have been offers, has he ever thought which promotion would he sign with soon?
Speaking in Tiebreaker Vodcasts’ The Hit List presented by SMART Sunday, the 24-year-old said that MP Promotions suit him best.
Yes, the promotion which Sen. Pacquiao owns, and which has been handling the careers of young Filipino pugs like Jerwin Ancajas and Mark Magsayo.
“I think MP Promotions is the best promoter,” said Marcial, who had received enticing offers that hover in tens of millions of pesos.
For the former AIBA Junior World Champion, the capability of Sen. Pacquiao to guide up-and-coming boxers is one of his reasons.
“Alam ko nandiyan si Senator Pacquiao na tinutulungan po ‘yung mga boksingero na umangat din sa kahirapan at maabot ‘yung mga pangarap [nila],” Marcial said.
But ultimately, working with a fellow Filipino is a huge factor in his inclination to join MP Promotions once he turns pro.
Marcial and Sen. Pacquiao are both from Mindanao — Marcial is from Zamboanga, while the boxing great hails from General Santos City.
“May mga ibang promoter international, magaganda, malalaki, pero alam niyo ‘yung relationship na same kayo Filipino,” Marcial said.
“At alam niyo naman na si Senator, nandiyan sa likod natin na tutulong sa mga atleta, lalo na sa pro boxing, kasi diyan din siya nanggaling.”
