One of the country’s brightest young prospect in weightlifting just got fasttracked.
Elreen Ando has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics through the continental quota for the women’s minus-64 kg division.
The International Weightlifting Federation released the list on Saturday morning (Manila time).
Ando, 22, accumulated 2634.9334 points for 12th place in the division.
Fortunately for the Cebuana, though, Europe already had four entries in the top nine. That then negated the 10th and 11th rankings of Lisa Marie Schweizer and Anni Teija Vuohijoki.
Ando is coming off a two-silver, one-bronze finish in the 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships.
She joins Hidilyn Diaz, who also made her entry official to the Games. The four-time Olympian, meanwhile, will compete in the minus-55kg category.
The addition of Ando and Diaz increases Team Pilipinas’ contingent to 11 Filipinos.
Also in are boxing flyweight Carlo Paalam, middleweight Eumir Marcial, flyweight Irish Magno, and featherweight Nesthy Petecio; gymnast Caloy Yulo; pole vaulter EJ Obiena; taekwondo finweight Karl Barbosa; rower Cris Nievarez; and skateboarder Margie Didal.
