Eljah Yamson lifts DLSZ to UAAP Boys Table Tennis Finals showdown vs UST

De La Salle-Zobel barged into the Finals after escaping the scare from lower-ranked National University-Nazareth School, 3-2, Tuesday in the UAAP Season 82 Boys’ Table Tennis Stepladder rubber match at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Junior Archers will face University of Santo Tomas in the best-of-three finals on Wednesday, November 20 at the same venue.

Trailing 1-2, NU’s Johncarlo Facun survived Andrei Villacruel, 11-9, 9-11, 11-2, 8-11, 12-10, to force a decider.

But La Salle’s Elijah Yamson came through with an 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 victory against Harvey Facun, to seal the finals ticket.

In the first match, NU disarmed La Salle-Zobel of its twice-to-beat advantage, 3-2.

With their backs against the wall, the Bullpups racked up three straight wins, capped by Johncarlo Facun’s triumph against Earnst Salloman, 11-9, 13-11, 11-13, 11-7.

NU defeated University of the East in the knockout first phase of the stepladder earlier, 3-1.

Facun scored a come-from-behind win over Jefferson Manalao that iced the win for the Bullpups, 5-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 14-12.
