EJ Obiena takes gold in Leverkusen meet

EJ Obiena bagged another gold after taking the 2022 True Athletes Classic with a jump of 5.81 meters, Sunday at the Manforter Stadio in Leverkusen, Germany.

This is the 27-year-old’s third straight medal in a row after taking gold in Jockgrim and a bronze in Lausanne just the previous week.

Obiena had the gold in the bag after just clearing 5.81 on his second attempt, as it was just his first miss.

The Filipino standout earlier passed on the initial heights of 5.45 and 5.55 before taking on 5.65 in one try. He then skipped 5.75 prior to taking his eventual result.

Netherlands’ Rutgar Koppelaar and Australia’s Kurtis Marschall took the silver and the bronze medals, respectively, with the same height, but Obiena emerged victorious on countback.

Obiena will take on the Memorial Van Damme on September 2 at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium.
