EJ Gollena suspended for La Salle-Ateneo clash after DQ foul vs UP

EJ Gollena will miss a crucial UAAP Season 88 clash after receiving a one-game suspension for a disqualifying foul during the Green Archers’ game against the University of the Philippines last Saturday.

The third-year guard, who is averaging 6.31 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, will sit out Wednesday, November 26, when La Salle faces rival Ateneo de Manila University at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Both teams are currently tied at 6-7, battling for the final spot in the Final Four.

The incident occurred with 6.6 seconds left in the first quarter, just before UP’s throw-in.

Gollena, using his closed right fist, struck Francis Nnoruka in the upper right stomach after Nnoruka had forcefully used his forearms to remove Gollena’s hands from his midsection.

Fortunately, the team still went on to escape UP with an 87–82 victory.

La Salle has the option to file a motion for reconsideration regarding the suspension.
