Eggesvik sent off as Filipinas suffer defeat to Chile in second friendly

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team folded to Chile 1-0, early Wednesday morning in an international friendly played at the Estadio de la Pintana in Santiago.

Chilean attacking midfielder Karen Araya struck the game’s only goal when she scored from close range past Filipinas goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel in the 24th minute.

Things then got worse for coach Alen Stajcic’s side in the second half. Filipinas midfielder Sara Eggesvik — who was already booked in the first half — was sent off in the 53rd minute after getting another yellow card.

The result meant that the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship title holders’ winless run was extended to five matches. This stretched from the friendly against New Zealand last September as well as the dual meets against Costa Rica and Chile.

Chile XI: Canales, Lopez, Guerrero, Saez, Toro, Araya ©, Lopez, Olivares, Zamora, Keefe, Navarrete.

Philippines XI: McDaniel (GK), Cesar, Long ©, Bolden, Hawkinson, Frilles, Madarang, Quezada, Guillou, Eggesvik, Cowart.
