E-Gilas to defend NBA 2K crown in FIBA Esports Open II

Laus Playbook Esports-powered E-Gilas Pilipinas will return to the virtual hardcourt later this month.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced that the second edition of the FIBA Esports Open will take place from November to December.

The Asia-Pacific Conference, together with Africa and the Middle East will be played on November 14-15.

“The first-ever FIBA Esports Open was an important milestone. The growing interest received from our National Federations is an additional motivation for FIBA to further develop esports, and we are very enthusiastic about this second edition,” said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.

The North and Central America, and South America conferences will take place on December 19-20.

The Finals will take place in the FIBA Esports Open II in all conferences, with a best of three format.

Last June, E-Gilas dominated Indonesia with a five-game sweep, winning by an average margin of 32.8 points per game.

E-Gilas was composed of Aguila, Alt, Clark, Izzo, Rak, Rial, and Shintarou.

Like the first edition of the online tournament, the entire series will be produced from the FIBA Esports Studio in Riga, Latvia, with 54 hours of live content being streamed on FIBA’s Facebook, Twitch and YouTube channels.

Each game will be available online with live commentary in English, as well as a daily show featuring up to 12 games.
