The hits just kept coming for Kyle Negrito.
Just days after helping steer Creamline to an eight-game sweep of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, the 25-year-old playmaker out of Far Eastern University received a call of a lifetime.
On the other end of the line were officials from the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, asking her if she wanted to be part of the Women’s National Indoor Volleyball Team that will not only train in Brazil but also compete in the 31st Southeast Asian Games.
And without batting a lash, Negrito said yes.
“Actually, kahapon ko lang po nalaman,” she bared to ABS-CBN News’ Dyan Castillejo last Monday.
“I’m still a bit overwhelmed po, medyo paunti unti pa lang nagsisink in yung mga nangyayari.”
It’s been a wild ride for Negrito.
Playing back up to decorated setter Jia De Guzman, Negrito never got the limelight during the games.
But De Guzman always gave the 173-centimeter tall setter her dues, never failing to give her credit in every Cool Smasher win.
“May hangover pa po ako sa pagka-champion,” quipped Negrito.
Now, with the opportunity to learn with from the best of the best right in front of her, Negrito is looking to absorb everything she can for her development.
“To learn lang po, ano lang, ‘wag lang mag sawa matuto.”
