After Pasay’s campaign in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season last February 20, Pasay’s Dhon Reverente headed to another battle a month later.
With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Apprentice Seaman Reverente was called up by the Philippine Navy to serve as a frontliner. And he did not hesitate to say yes to the call of duty.
“Proud akong nakakapag-serve ako sa ating mga kababayan,” said Voyager turned Manok ng Bayan Reverente, who averaged 12.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in 32 games played last season.
“‘Yung pinakamatibay ko na lang na sandata ngayon ay dasal kasi hindi natin nakikita ang kalaban. Saka siyempre, importante rin ang knowledge kung paano iiwasan ang virus.”
Since the community quarantine implementation last March 15, the Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS) product has yet to go home to his family. Instead, he remains at Fort Bonifacio, waiting for orders.
“Very supportive naman family ko. Nakikita ko sila araw araw after duty via chat. Natatakot din ako umuwi kasi baka may madala ako sa bahay, mahawa sila, kaya tiis na lang talaga,” said the Chooks-to-Go-backed league All-Star.
Manok ng Pasay Reverente enlisted for the Philippine Navy last year.
As a frontliner, the uber-athletic forward has a message to every Filipino.
“Magtulungan at magkaisa na lang tayong lahat para matapos na itong COVID-19. I-enjoy na lang ang oras kasama ang family.”
