Despite strong MPL PH field, Hatred says ONIC’s greatest enemy is themselves

Shaky was ONIC PH’s start in MPL Philippines Season Nine.

Coming off a grand finals run in both the MPL Philippines Season Eight and the M3 World Championship and the fact that they retained their roster, ONIC PH was expected to dominate entering Season Nine.

However, the ONIC PH that we saw in the opening week was definitely far from its M3 form. They got overconfident.

ONIC PH almost dropped its opener against a rejigged Blacklist International, before eventually losing to Nexplay EVOS via sweep. So, with that, ONIC PH had a lengthy talk prior to the start of the second week. The meeting reportedly lasted for four hours.

Without a doubt, the talk paid dividends as ONIC PH opened Week Two with a dominant 2-0 sweep of Bren Esports.

“Ano po, binabalikan lang po namin yung Season Eight saka M3,” said Marky “Markyyyyy” Capacio, who dropped seven kills and seven assists in Game Two as Wanwan.

“Kasi nakampante po kami nung nakaraan, kaya binabalikan lang po namin yung ginagawa namin dati.”

“Binalik lang yung dating kami, yun lang po. Yung kung paano kami nag laro, paano kami mag usap, binalik lang po namin kasi medyo nawala po e,” echoed roamer Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales.

Admittedly, Markyyyyy bared that the level of competition got even higher in Season Nine. But in the end, the only one standing in the team’s path to the title is themselves, according to Hatred.

“Nagulat po talaga kami kasi lahat ng teams malalakas po e, walang tapon ngayong season. Lahat malalakas,” shared Markyyyyy.

“Yung sarili lang po namin yung kalaban namin,” said Hatred.

ONIC PH is now tied with Nexplay EVOS at the fourth spot with identical 2-1 records and five points each.

The team will take on Omega Esports next on Friday at 8:00 PM.
