Deschon Winston is proving that he is worth the hype in his final year at De La Salle University.
The master’s student-athlete out of Central Michigan University is the leader in the UAAP Season 85 Men’s Basketball statistical points race.
Winston, who is averaging 21.29 points, 6.14 rebounds, 3.57 assists, and 3.0 steals per game is leading the SP race with 84.429 points.
Though UP’s JD Cagulangan is second in the race with 78.0 SPs, he is not eligible for the post-season awards as he has only played one game so far. League rules state that student-athletes eligible for the individual awards must play at least 70-percent of the regular season (nine games for basketball).
So it’s Ateneo’s Forthsky Padrigao who is at second after norming 12.86 points, 4.43 rebounds, 6.14 assists, and 2.14 steals per game for 76.571 SPs.
Sitting at fourth is Winston’s teammate Evan Nelle with 73.6 SPs but he is not eligible for any post-season awards after being suspended for numerous unsportsmanlike fouls.
University of the Philippines’ Carl Tamayo is fifth with 72.714 SPs while reigning MVP Angelo Kouame of Ateneo is sixth with 71.571 SPs.
UE’s Luis Villegas is at seventh with 70.429 SPs. He completes the All-UAAP team if the season had ended in the first round.
Completing the top 10 are Adamson’s Jerom Lastimosa (68.857), Ateneo’s Dave Ildefonso (67.857), and UP’s Malick Diouf (66.143).
