Decision to join Gilas’ SEAG lineup now up to players, says Marcial

After TNT’s 127-107 triumph over Terrafirma on Wednesday evening, Tropang Giga head coach Chot Reyes immediately went to meet PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

The concurrent Gilas head coach immediately gave Marcial his list of 15 players that will form the national team’s pool for the 31st Southeast Asian Games set from May 12-23 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

“Nag-meeting kami ngayon,” Marcial told PBA.ph. “Nagbigay siya ng mga pangalan [ng mga players na gusto niya].”

Confident is Marcial that the league’s Board of Governors will approve the list.

So it’s all up to the players now to answer the call of duty.

Marcial and his office will ask the players one by one whether they would want to join the team that is set to start training this April.

By then, the Governors’ Cup will be over.

“Kailangan makausap ko muna yung mga governors, at makausap ko agad yung mga players kung okay sila doon sa schedule para kung hindi sila (players) libre, may commitment sila, mapapalitan agad namin,” the amiable executive continued.

“Ang concern natin yung mga players. Hindi natin alam, baka mamaya dun sa time na yun may commitment sila or sabihin nila, ‘Comm, gusto kong mag-pahinga or Comm, meron akong injury.”

The Philippines is an 18-time gold medalist in the regional meet — including champions of the last 13 tournaments.
