Deanna Wong to miss Collegiate Conference due to stress fracture

Ateneo senior setter Deanna Wong has been sidelined due to a stress fracture in the shin of her right leg.

According to Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro, the injury has kept Wong out of the playing field. This is also the reason why the ace setter of the Lady Eagles was not included in the team’s roster in the 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference.

“Deanna is still injured e,” he said.

“Meron siyang stress fracture [in her] shin.”

The 21-year-old playmaker sustained the injury after their championship run in the UAAP Season 81 Women’s Volleyball tournament.

The said injury also prevented the Under-23 member from participating in the 2019 Thailand Open Sealect Tuna Championship back in July, per youth mentor Kungfu Reyes.

When asked if Wong will be able to recover just in time for the UAAP Season 82 Volleyball tourney, Almadro remained optimistic, saying: “Of course, we have to be positive.

“I guess she’ll make it on time.”

In the meantime, Almadro is heavily relying on Jaja Maraguinot to fulfill the playmaking duties.

“Jaja is playing well naman.

“Jaja is doing good sa nawawalang posisyon,” he said. “Yun, sana maging positive yung pag heal ng injury ni Deanna but I commend Jaja for her hardwork and leadership inside the court.”
