A Filipino has just assured himself of a slot to the finale.
David Carlos, the champion of the 2017 FIBA Chenglu Masters, thrilled the Philippine Arena with his acrobatic dunks during the 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup Slam Dunk Competition, Sunday afternoon.
“First of all I want to thank God na nabigyan ako ng strength to make my dunks. As you can see, nandun ka naman nung NBTC, as in 0 ako because of my knee,” he shared. “But yeah, I’m really happy to make it sa final day ng dunk contest, to represent our country, and the name on the back.”
Carlos started the day by jamming a windmill slam over four people.
But it was just a prelude.
The 5-foot-9 pro dunk artist threw down a beautiful reverse jam over two people. He even paid tribute to Arwind Santos as he ended his dunk “Spiderman-style”.
And he has more in store for June 12.
“Honestly meron pa akong mga dalawa, tatlo, like what I said sa first interview ko, ang goal ko is to make it to day two kasi wala pang nakakgawa nun na Pilipino,” Carlos added.
Joining Carlos in the next round are 2016 Dunk Contest Gold Medalist Dmitry “Smoove” Krivenko, 2017 Bronze Medalist Vadim “Miller” Poddubchenko, and Guy Dupuy.
Four-time PBA Dunk King Rey Guevarra was not able to make it, as he missed his second dunk.
