TNT has tapped the services of Darius Days for the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup as plans to bring back Rondae Hollis Jefferson got shelved – for now.
The development was confirmed to Tiebreaker Times by Tropang Giga team manager Jojo Lastimosa.
Per sources, the Tropang Giga cannot secure his return as the former NBA veteran is heading for Europe. He is reportedly contemplating signing in either Germany or France – indeed a tough blow in their bid to go back-to-back in the conference.
Thus, the decision to bring in the 24-year-old forward, who’s spent much of his career in the G-League after a four-year career with Louisiana State.
Days was claimed off waivers by the Houston Rockets from the Miami Heat prior to the 2022-23 season and was converted to a two-way contract.
The Florida native spent most of the season assigned to the Rockets’ G-League affiliate, Rio Grande Valley.
He maximized his time with the Vipers as he earned G-League Second Team and All-Rookie Team honors.
In 29 games, Days averaged 24.4 points on 4.0 triples and 9.8 rebounds as he played with a chip on his shoulder after going undrafted in 2022.
He returned to Rio Grande for the 2023-24 season after being waived by the Rockets last October. He would then sign up for a short stint with the Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League earlier this year.
Days was supposed to play for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2024 NBA Summer League but got ruled out reportedly due to an illness.
Now, he’s set to embark on his first gig outside of America, joining a TNT side that recently added star guard Rey Nambatac via trade.
The reigning Governors’ Cup champions are pooled in Group A of the upcoming conference with reigning Philippine Cup titlists Meralco, perennial contenders Magnolia, NorthPort, Converge, and Terrafirma.
