Superstar forward Calvin Abueva was nowhere to be found on Friday night, during the Alaska Aces’ bid to halt their months-long 10-game skid against Malcolm Hill and the Star Hotshots at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
And according to Alaska head coach Alex Compton, the six-foot-two Kapampangan did not show up versus Star due to personal matters that require his attention.
“[It’s about] personal matters to take care of. That’s all I can comment,” said Compton regarding Abueva’s whereabouts, moments after the Aces bowed to the Hotshots, 92-101, and to their 11th straight loss.
Abueva last played during Alaska’s game against the Phoenix Fuel Masters last July 22, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists
However, two team insiders disclosed to Tiebreaker Times that the hard-nosed cager has not been reporting to the team since Monday. Furthermore, Abueva was also a no-show during Gilas’ practices on Thursday and Friday.
Asked if Abueva will return to the fold next Friday, August 2, as they go up against TNT Katropa, the 43-year-old tactician did not give a certain response.
“We’ll find out how things are,” said Compton.
“I really don’t have anything else to comment, but that’s all I can share for you.”
