CJ Perez dominates as Columbian continues mastery of San Miguel

Columbian still have the San Miguel Beermen’s number this season, as the Dyip beat the powerhouse squad in overtime, 134-132, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Sunday evening at SMART Araneta Coliseum.

CJ Perez sank a tough lay-up with 12.7 seconds left to play to give his side a 134-130 lead. It was enough to take down SMB once again, just as they did in their 2019 Philippine Cup encounter back in January 18.

The Lyceum alum had 34 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the win.

Columbian lift their card to 2-6.

“I give credit to the players, ano, kasi even though we’re losing three straight, at least andoon pa rin sila,” lauded Dyip head coach Johnedel Cardel. “I talked to them going to this San Miguel game. This is a champion team.”

Lester Prosper finally got his first win in the PBA and it was largely thanks to his 40-point performance – including 20 in the opening frame alone. The 6-foot-10 import also collected 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Rashawn McCarthy made his presence felt in the victory as well, producing 27 points on an impressive 70-percent shooting from the field. He also had 14 assists and six rebounds in over 49 minutes of playing time.

“Sabi ko, if we play together, if we play with patience in our offense, if we play hard on defense, nothing is impossible. Matatalo yan. So yun nga ang kinalabasan ng game,” added the second-year Columbian mentor.
