Two UAAP stars are set to join MPBL clubs before they enter the 2024 PBA Rookie Draft.
Iloilo announced that it has signed CJ Cansino while Quezon has tapped L-Jay Gonzales.
This will mark the two reuniting with their former coaches in the MPBL.
Cansino will play for former University of the Philippines assistant coach MC Abolucion.
For Abolucion, getting Cansino was his first order of business in his first full season with the United Royals.
“Getting CJ on board was our top priority. His leadership and all-around skills make him a game-changer. He embodies the spirit we need for our upcoming MPBL campaign,” said the young head coach, who is also an assistant coach for National University.
Meanwhile, L-Jay will be under former Far Eastern University deputy Eric Gonzales with the Huskers.
Coach Eric is also with UP.
Cansino averaged 10.94 points and 3.06 rebounds during his final year in the UAAP while L-Jay normed 14.79 points, 7.79 rebounds, and 3.14 assists.
Both Iloilo and Quezon were eliminated in the opening round of the MPBL Playoffs.
