Cignal announced on Wednesday that they have tapped 6-foot-2 wing spiker MJ Perez for their upcoming campaign in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference.
Perez, who has previously played in the Philippines, will bolster the HD Spikers’ wing spiker rotation alongside Ces Molina, Vanie Gandler, and Jovelyn Gonzaga in the import-laden conference starting next month.
The 32-year-old veteran from Venezuela brings a wealth of experience to a Cignal squad that has faced challenges in past conferences.
Perez’s international career has seen her showcase her talent worldwide, most recently with Alexandria Sporting Club VC in Egypt. She has also played in Puerto Rico, Finland, Cyprus, France, Indonesia, Italy, and Vietnam.
A one-time South American Championship bronze medalist, Perez represented Venezuela in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where her team finished 11th.
She previously played for former PVL squad F2 Logistics in the now-defunct Philippine Super Liga (PSL), contributing to the team’s 2017 Grand Prix championship win.
In the season-opening All-Filipino Conference, the HD Spikers missed the semifinals, finishing sixth with a 7-4 record.
