Cignal, Steven Rotter part ways ahead of Spikers’ Turf season

Spikers’ Turf powerhouse Cignal and Steven Rotter have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced Friday night.

Rotter played a pivotal role for the HD Spikers over the past year, helping anchor the club’s championship runs in the 2024 Invitational and 2025 Open Conferences.

The former AMC Cotabato standout claimed both Best Opposite Spiker and Finals MVP honors in the season-opening conference last year, where he powered Cignal past rival Criss Cross in the finals.

During his stint with the club, Rotter also secured the league’s first-ever Season Best Opposite Spiker award.

However, Rotter struggled to regain his form in his final conference with Cignal during the 2025 Invitational Conference. The HD Spikers were also shorthanded in the latter stages of the tournament, missing the services of Alas Pilipinas standouts Owa Retamar, Louie Ramírez, Vince Lorenzo, and Lloyd Josafat.

Cignal ultimately settled for third place, marking the franchise’s first time missing the finals since 2018.

Meanwhile, Vince Maglinao also parted ways with the team after just one conference. The wing spiker saw limited action in the Invitational Conference and has opted to pursue flight school, prompting him to step away from competitive volleyball.
