Cignal, SMART to bring unprecedented coverage for UAAP 84 Volleyball

The long wait is finally over. Only a day left before the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 84 Women’s Volleyball begins its intense action on the taraflex on May 5, after a two-year hiatus.

The return of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball is eagerly anticipated since the last UAAP Volleyball Season (Season 82) was halted in March 2020 in line with pandemic preventive measures. The season prior to it, Season 81, saw Ateneo face UST in the Finals, with Ateneo defeating UST in three games back in 2019.

“The UAAP is glad to have women’s volleyball back in Season 84,” shared UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag. “The tournament was cut short in Season 82 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic which means we have not had a champion in three years. Since then, the players and supporters have been yearning for one of the most popular events in the UAAP calendar.

“The UAAP has witnessed so many thrilling matches in women’s volleyball – played in packed venues – in the past few years and we can expect more of that as our players go all out every game representing their schools with pride and honor.”

Season 84 of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball will begin on May 5, with games scheduled every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

All the games will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, with audiences allowed to watch the games live. Fans can also catch the live games via One Sports, UAAP Varsity Channel, Cignal Play, and Smart GigaPlay. As a welcome treat for international fans, UAAP Varsity Channel will now be available overseas starting May 4 via iWantTFC.

With most of the marquee names already graduating and turning pro, the volleyball community is teeming with excitement to see fresh stars and new blood playing in the UAAP this season. All eight UAAP schools will be seeing action on the opening day games on May 5, headlined by Ateneo vs De La Salle scheduled at 4PM.

“We are all set to provide the most extensive and reliable coverage for this highly anticipated UAAP women’s volleyball event,” said Cignal President and CEO Robert P. Galang. “Cignal brings the games via the dedicated UAAP Varsity Channel as well as through One Sports and Cignal Play, to give volleyball fans the best viewing experience at their own convenience.

“This is going to be an intensified season, and we feel the energy and anticipation from the volleyball community. We at Cignal are honored to bring the UAAP Women’s Volleyball action as it happens, where it happens.”
