Cignal flaunted its might as it dominated PLDT Home Fibr, 25-12, 25-21, 25-15, to gain a share of the lead in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Mylene Paat and Rachel Anne Daquis delivered the blows, taking turns in piercing the defense to tow the HD Spikers to their third straight win.
The HD Spikers are now on top of the team standings with a 2-0 mark.
Paat had 11 kills and three blocks while the veteran Daquis chipped in 10 kills and an ace for the HD Spikers, who wrapped up the battle in just 80 minutes.
âIâm really pleased to see my players step up. I always tell them to be ready and prove that they are capable of rising up to the occasion,â said Cignal coach Edgar Barroga, who also drew a fiery performance from Filipino-American setter Alohi Robins-Hardy.
Robins-Hardy, who started her campaign as part of United VC, had 20 excellent sets laced with five kills for Cignal, which dominated the net with 11 blocks.
Barroga said the victory served as a major morale-booster as they march into their tilt against the Blaze Spikers this Saturday at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
âOur mettle will surely be tested on Saturday as we go up against Petron,â said Barroga, looking forward to challenging Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos to another thrilling chess match at the sidelines.
Grethcel Soltones and Aiko Urdas combined for 21 points for PLDT, which fell to fourth spot with 2-2.
