By: Nicole Parallag

Christy Logastua’s brace helped University of Santo Tomas close their UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament campaign on a high note, securing a 2-0 victory over University of the Philippines on Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Field.

Logastua opened the scoring in the third minute, marking her first goal of the season and setting the tone for UST’s dominant performance.

Just after the restart, the 22-year-old striker sealed the win for UST in the 47th minute, securing the Lady Booters’ third-place finish.

“Deserve ng girls yan. Mentally and emotionally, gusto talaga nila kunin kahit third place lang. I know we’re struggling sa first round, but hindi sila affected masyado, hindi sila nagkaroon ng low morale,” said UST head coach Marjo Allado.

“Parang every game is a challenge and we keep on telling the girls na kaya niyo yan, kailangang maniwala sa sarili niyo.”

After a draw with UP in the first round, UST finished the tournament with 8 points and a goal difference of minus-1, securing third place.

UP struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, with Jansen Miranda coming closest to an equalizer in the 31st minute.

However, her attempt was just inches away from the post and went off target.

The result left UP in fourth place with 5 points and a goal difference of minus-10.

UP will look to end their campaign on a positive note when they face De La Salle on December 7 at 6:30 PM.
