Chris Newsome earns PBA Finals MVP after ending Meralco’s long wait


In a culmination of a nine-year odyssey, Chris Newsome claimed the PBA Finals MVP trophy after propelling the Meralco Bolts to their first-ever championship victory on Sunday night.

After enduring numerous setbacks against teams affiliated with the San Miguel Corporation, Newsome delivered the defining moment of his career with a game-winning shot in Game 6, sealing the series and etching his name in PBA history.

Newsome averaged an impressive 22.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, earning accolades for his leadership and clutch performances when it mattered most.

Reflecting on the journey and the triumph, Newsome addressed the Bolts faithful with heartfelt gratitude.

“Meralco Bolts family, do you believe,” he exclaimed, echoing the team’s mantra that resonated throughout the series.

“Thank you for believing in us since Game One. Nobody believed in us but us. Ever since I was drafted, you were the ones who believed in us.”

With joy and pride, Newsome dedicated the championship to the entire Meralco community.

“This is for you,” he proclaimed.
