Chris Gavina to join Rain or Shine’s coaching staff

There will be a new face in the Rain or Shine bench starting next season as Chris Gavina will be joining the Elasto Painters’ coaching staff, multiple accounts reported Friday noontime.

As per Waylon Galvez of Manila Bulletin via Twitter, Gavina will be the first assistant to head coach Caloy Garcia.

This will mark the return of Gavina to the PBA after almost a year. The 39-year-old bench strategist served as the head coach of Kia Picanto back in 2016, but resigned on December 30, 2017.

Gavina though didn’t stop from coaching after that stint as he had also handled Valenzuela in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, where he took them to the semis back in the first conference.

Gavina, who started his coaching career with the Philippine Patriots in the ASEAN Basketball League back in 2011, will be joining an RoS team that are coming off a dismal run in the 2018 Governors’ Cup.
