Why not?
Last Friday, the Philippines Men’s National Wheelchair Basketball Team, better known as the Pilipinas Warriors, received a pleasant surprise.
As they are national team just like Gilas Pilipinas, Chooks-to-Go and Gold’s Gym decided to team up and support the Pilipinas Warriors in their journey towards qualifying for the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia.
“When we saw the Warriors during the 2017 ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia last September, we asked ourselves, why not support them as well,” recalled Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. President Ronald Mascariñas, as the Warriors brought home bronze during that tournament.
“So me and Mylene Dayrit of Gold’s Gym got in touch to help support the Warriors just like what we do with Gilas,” the sports patron furthered.
With this partnership, Chooks-to-Go will supply the national team with recovery meals, while Gold’s Gym gave them free elite membership to all their gyms, including their basketball court over in Sheridan, Mandaluyong.
“Nung una kami nagkita, hindi kami nag-usap about basketball. Ang unang ginamot namin yung feeling,” recalled Pilipinas Warriors head coach Vernon Perea. “We have to act like a national team, we have to look like a national team.
“With this partnership, we are optimistic that this is the time for our para-athletes.”
“It’s a good time to be an athlete,” added Warrior Kenneth Tapia.
With this, the team will no longer have to think of anything else besides how they can improve themselves and represent the country well.
“Hopefully, this will bring in more exposure and more support to our new Manok ng Bayan,” Mascariñas hopes.
