Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 All-Stars leaned on its talent to stave off Indonesia, 21-13 (9:13), to clinch the first of two final tickets in the Jakarta 3×3 International Invitational Challenge 2019, Saturday.
Down 12-13 with five minutes left in the game, Joshua Munzon was able to bully his way and grab the Indonesians seventh foul that resulted to two free throws.
It sparked a huge surge for the Filipinos as Alvin Pasaol scored three straight buckets followed by two more free throws from Munzon.
Troy Rike then scored on a putback off of a Santi Santillan miss to send Chooks 3×3 to matchpoint. After a stop, Munzon, the country’s top 3×3 player, ended the contest with an acrobatic layin with 1:47 left.
Munzon led the way with 15 points.
Pasaol and Rike added five and three markers respectively while Santillan had a point.
With a 3-0 slate, the Philippines advanced to the championship game of the five-nation meet.
Indonesia, who are headed to the SEA Games, fell to 2-1. Indonesia though holds the tiebreaker against Vietnam, who will face the Philippines next.
