ONE Championship has always made sure to bring a stacked card to Manila.
And it seems that ONE is looking to build another deep roster come ONE: Dawn of Heroes on August 2, 2019.
After ONE’s 15-deep event Roots of Honor, chairman Chatri Sityodtong was asked when and where the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix semifinals match between Demetrious Johnson and Tatsumitsu Wada will take place.
Sityodtong promptly threw the question back to the person who asked the question.
“DJ-Wada? You think DJ would do well here? “
In unison, the entire press room of the SM Mall of Asia Arena answered with a resounding yes.
“We’ll absolutely do it here,” he declared.
If this comes into fruition, the former UFC World Flyweight Champion, who submitted Yuya Wakamatsu in the second round back in ONE: A New Era, will make his return to Manila after four years. He was one of the UFC’s guests during Fight Night: Edgar vs. Faber back in May of 2015.
On the other hand, this will be Wada’s third straight fight in Manila. He figured in a ‘qualifier’ bout against Danny Kingad during Hero’s Ascent and a quarterfinals match against Gustavo Balart during Roots of Honor.
It is still unknown if the other bracket that will see Danny Kingad take on Kairat Akhmetov will also take place in this card.
