Carlo Paalam’s motor was in full display against Ramish Rahmani of Afghanistan, taking a unanimous decision win to advance to the next round of the 2020 Asia and Oceania Olympic Boxing Qualifiers, Saturday evening (Manila time) in Amman, Jordan.
Picking apart Rahmani in the first two rounds, Paalam sustained his energy in the third round. Though the Afghan tried to answer back, the 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist had the better all-around game.
It was a showcase for Paalam in the first two rounds.
The Filipino decided to scrap in the first round, before picking apart the Afghan with counters in the second stanza.
Up next for Paalam though is Indian top seed Amit. Amit is coming off a split decision win over Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu.
There are six Olympic slots for the taking in the flyweight division.
