Calvin Abueva refused to comment on the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters’ 82-92 loss to the San Miguel Beermen on Monday night, that dropped them to 0-2 in their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series.
“No comment. I know that,” said the enigmatic forward while making his way out of the SMART Araneta Coliseum, as members of the media tried to seek a quick interview regarding the loss that has put Phoenix in a dangerous spot.
Game Two of their best-of-seven clash was an eventful one for the Beast.
With 6:10 remaining in the second quarter, Christian Standhardinger hit Abueva in the face when they entangled on the floor. It resulted in the Filipino-German’s ejection as he was called for a flagrant foul penalty two.
Unfortunately, Abueva suffered the same fate as Standhardinger later on.
Abueva was unable to finish the match as he fouled out with 1:10 left in the game after being whistled for a foul against June Mar Fajardo. He even went straight to their locker room, but returned to the court right away.
Abueva finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks. Unfortunately, his all-around effort was enough to help the Fuel Masters equalize the series at one game apiece.
