SIPALAY City is going all out to ensure a successful hosting debut as a Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour venue on June 24-25.
The city in Negros Occidental has prior experience in hosting beach volleyball events, having organized a tournament in 2017 under the leadership of then Vice Mayor Gina Lizares.
The tournament saw BVR founder Bea Tan and Amanda Villanueva emerge as champions, defeating Erjane Magdato and Alexa Polidario.
Several familiar faces from the podium finishers of the previous event will be returning to compete once again. Magdato will team up with Edrilyn Carbajosa to represent Pontevedra, while Tan will have Jennifer Cosas as her partner this time.
Additionally, Jackie Estoquia and DM Demontaño, who secured third place in the Sipalay invitational tournament, will also make a comeback and participate in the BVR on Tour.
After a six-year hiatus, the nation’s top collegiate and club teams will gather in Sipalay for the second leg of this year’s BVR on Tour. An ardent supporter of beach volleyball, Lizares believes that sports can greatly contribute to her city’s tourism and youth development.
The two-day competition has generated immense excitement among athletes, who are eagerly anticipating the chance to visit Sipalay City, a popular tourist destination known as the Jewel of the Sugar Island.
Sipalay will hold its own qualifying tournament to determine the city’s representatives in the upcoming BVR leg. Additionally, a beach volleyball workshop will be organized for local youth enthusiasts, providing them with an opportunity to learn the sport from their idols.
