Brownlee, Ginebra slotted with San Miguel in PBA Governors’ Cup group phase

Justin Brownlee and Ginebra will have San Miguel in their bracket for the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The runners-up in last season’s Governors’ Cup are slotted with Philippine Cup finalists, the Beermen, in Group B of the tournament set to tip off next month.

Also in the group are Rain or Shine, NLEX, Phoenix, and Blackwater.

The groupings were determined during the league’s board meeting on June 4, using a “Z” method based on the standings during the Philippine Cup.

Philippine Cup champion Meralco, meanwhile, will have sister team TNT on its side of the bracket.

Joining them in Group A are Magnolia, Northport, Terrafirma, and Converge.

Each team will face their poolmates twice in the elimination round.

The top four teams in each pool will advance to the crossover quarterfinals, which is a best-of-five affair.

The semifinals and the finals are best-of-seven.

The last time the PBA used a pool format was during the 2003 season.

The Governors’ Cup will have a 6-foot-6 height limit for its imports.
