Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez had witnessed his dad Bong play during his heydays in the PBA, where he wowed the crowd through his high-leaping acts that earned him the monicker Mr. Excitement.
But on Sunday, it was the 24-year-old who hugged the spotlight as she served as the San Miguel Beermen’s muse during the league’s Season 45 opening rites at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Alyssa, of course, is extremely elated to have taken part in the festivities that was also a celebration of Asia’s pioneering pro league from its beginnings in 1975 to how it has become since.
“Sobrang excited! Dati nanonood lang ako pero ngayon parang naging parte ako ng mundo ng daddy ko.”
The Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2018 winner said that Bong is glad that she was the muse of the Beermen, which was the fourth team he played for after Alaska, Sta. Lucia, and Shell.
“I’m really happy. And pati yung daddy ko, na dito ako napunta. Kasi the year I was born, he was with San Miguel,” said Alyssa, who was born in 1995 — the time his dad arrived at San Miguel.
Bong, though, wasn’t there to watch his daughter due to a prior commitment, but Alyssa shared that he is proud of her.
“Sayang lang he couldn’t make it here. But he really wished he could’ve made it if he didn’t have work. Pero sobrang proud nga raw niya, sobrang saya niya raw for me.”
