Blackwater recovered from a huge deficit and picked up a 14-12 win over previously undefeated Rain or Shine Friday night in the PBA-Tag Heuer 3-on-3 Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Blackwater, which came off a stunning loss against TNT last Wednesday, snapped Rain or Shine’s three-game winning streak in Group B. Both teams now have 3-1 records in the group.
The Elite trailed by as much as 10-5 in the contest after Nicole Garcia scored eight points for Rain or Shine. But the Elite were able to fire five straight points to pull within 1, 10-9.
Rubielyn Mendoza ended the drought for Rain or Shine but turnovers hounded the Elasto Painters towards the end of the match.
Allana Lim scored an and-one, while Camille Sambile and Raiza Palmera-Dy each added baskets as Blackwater took a 14-11 lead and never looked back.
In the second game, NLEX remained undefeated in Group A after scoring a 13-11 win over the Star Hotshots.
Analyn Almazan broke a 7-all deadlock after scoring four straight points, giving the Road Warriors an 11-7 cushion. Clarissa Guevarra nailed a long two after, before Almazan added two more free throws to make it 13-10.
Katherine Merilo then scored on a lay-up to pull Star within 13-11, then forced a turnover to gain one final chance at tying the match. Merilo, however, was unable to hoist a shot in the final 2.6 seconds, allowing NLEX to escape and pick up its fourth straight victory.
The Hotshots meanwhile, dropped to 0-3 in Group A.
