Third-seeded Biñan-Tatak Gel kept sixth-ranked Caloocan at bay from start to finish, securing an 87-74 victory on Wednesday at the Parañaque Coliseum to book a spot in the semifinals of the 2026 Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
With Chack Cabinbin and Eka Soriano sidelined by minor injuries, Monique Del Carmen and Luisa San Juan stepped up in a big way, powering the Angels past the Lady Kankaloo and into a semifinal showdown against defending champion and No. 2 seed Batangas-New Zealand Bluefire.
Del Carmen filled up the stat sheet with 22 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks to lead Biñan-Tatak Gel. Meanwhile, San Juan continued her strong form with 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Holding a slim 52-50 lead late in the third quarter, the Angels seized control with a decisive 13-1 run that carried over into the fourth period. Chicky Faraon capped the surge with a three-pointer at the 9:40 mark, extending Biñan-Tatak Gel’s advantage to 65-51.
Caloocan never recovered from the run, as the Angels maintained a double-digit cushion the rest of the way to secure their place in the semifinals of the tournament backed by Aktive.
“Yun, hindi nakapaglaro si Eka Soriano and si Chack Cabinbin. Meron silang dinadamdam na konting injury, so hopefully makabalik sila sa semis. Buti nag-step up ‘yung ibang players at nakuha namin ‘yung panalo,” said Biñan-Tatak Gel head coach Jack Azcueta.
Faraon also delivered a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Chuchi Paraiso contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Angel Quingco chipped in nine points in the victory.
On the other hand, the Lady Kankaloo saw their season come to an end after suffering their sixth consecutive loss and falling short in their bid to extend their quarterfinal campaign.
Loraine Capilit led Caloocan with 18 points and seven assists.
Dianne Pedregosa recorded a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds to go along with five assists, while Joan Camagong added 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.
