Dwight Ramos and Toyama needed to dig deep to outlast Kyoto in overtime, taking an 84-81 win to snap their three-game skid in the 2021-22 B.League season, Saturday at Kyoto City Gymnasium.
The trio of Julian Mavunga, Brice Johnson, and Ramos were the only Grouses who scored for their side in extra time
Ramos opened the scoring in the extension with a jumper but was slapped with two fouls later on.
Mavunga broke a 78-78 deadlock later on with a putback off of his own miss followed by two free throws.
Though Jerome Tillman scored on a three-point play with 34 seconds left, Brice Johnson slammed it home on the other end to give the Grouses an 84-81 lead.
A desperation trey by Yoshiaki Kubota missed as Toyama grabbed its 21st win in 53 games.
Mavunga tallied 25 points, nine rebounds, and six assists for the Grouses while Johnson added 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Ramos chipped in six points, three assists, and two rebounds while Keijuro Matsui, who scored the overtime-sending trey with 22 seconds left in regulation, got 11 points.
David Simon had a monster line for Kyoto, who fell to 13-39, with 28 points and 18 rebounds.
Tillman produced 14 points while Kubota added 13 points and nine assists.
The two teams face off again tomorrow.
