The Philippine men’s national volleyball team showcased their dominance by securing a straight-set victory of 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 over Macau in the classification phase of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup on Thursday at the University of Taipei Hall 2 in Taiwan.
Looking ahead, the Filipino team will face Mongolia tomorrow, providing them with an opportunity to further enhance their performance and strive for a better ranking in the 7th to 10th placement round.
In the pool play, the Philippines had already defeated Mongolia in a closely contested match with a score of 22-25, 25-21, 26-24, 23-25, 15-12.
Initially, Macau managed to gain an early advantage in the first set.
However, the Philippine team, led by Steven Rotter, quickly regained their momentum and turned the tables, ultimately securing a commanding 25-15 victory in the opening set.
In the second set, the Nationals broke away from a 9-all deadlock through a coordinated attack from all fronts.
With the contribution of second-stringers Noel Kampton and Chu Njigha, the Filipino team sealed the set with a score of 25-16, further solidifying their lead with a 2-0 advantage.
The third set followed a similar pattern as the Philippines pulled away from a tight start.
With outstanding performances from Rex Intal, Ryan Ka, and Kampton, the Filipinos powered through and clinched the set with a score of 25-17, securing an overall victory.
