Filipino doubles ace Treat Huey and Max Schnur of the United States faced a stiff challenge but managed to do just enough to earn a finals berth in the ATP Challenger Hamburg in Germany.
Huey and Schnur won their semifinals match against Artem Sitak of New Zealand and Sem Verbeek of Netherlands, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) on Friday at the indoor hard court of Hamburger Tennis Verband.
The top-seeded Filipino and American duo broke Sitak’s serve in the third game of the opening set which proved to be the turning point that enabled them to prevail over the third-seeded Kiwi and Dutch.
The second set extended to a tiebreak, but Huey and Schnur were steadier under pressure as they pulled away from a 3-3 deadlock to clinch the match against Sitak and Verbeek, who was Huey’s doubles partner for a time in 2021.
Currently ranked 100th in the world, Huey will be gunning for his third doubles title for the year in the ATP Challenger circuit.
He and Schnur will be facing hometown bets Julian Lenz and veteran Jamaican-German veteran Dustin Brown in the finals on Saturday.
