Ateneo-La Salle II headlines start of UAAP Season 84 round two

The second round of the UAAP Season 84 Men’s Basketball Tournament goes off to a flying start with a marquee match-up featuring one of the collegiate sports’ biggest rivalries.

Ateneo de Manila University, riding a 33-game winning streak, takes on its archrival, season hosts De La Salle University, which has a 5-2 record after round one, this Tuesday, 7:00 PM at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

La Salle looks to bounce back after its 57-74 defeat against Ateneo in the first round.

Beforehand, title contenders University of the Philippines (6-1) goes up against Jeff Napa’s emerging National University (4-3) at 10:00 AM.

UP is on a six-game winning streak entering the game although NU is on a two-game winning streak on its own after it suffered a rout at the hands of Ateneo. UP prevailed 80-70 when both sides met in the first round.

After the UP-NU rematch, the Racela brothers meet anew when Far Eastern University (3-4) goes up against Adamson University (2-5) at 12:30 PM.

The two teams would love to kickstart their second-round campaigns on a high note after a disappointing first round. RJ Abarrientos was the hero last time around as it was his three that gave FEU a memorable 66-65 win over Adamson.

Lastly, University of the East (0-7) will then try to get the monkey off its back as it seeks to redeem itself against University of Santo Tomas (2-5) at 4:30 PM.

Sherwin Concepion’s 25-point game proved to be the difference last time around as UST sealed a 74-62 win over UE in round one.
