Aleah Finnegan and Kylee Kvamme made history by securing their places in the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
This milestone occurred when Finnegan and Kvamme finished in seventh and 14th place, respectively, in the individual all-around final of the 2023 Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships on Friday at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
Finnegan, the 2021 Southeast Asian Games champion on vault, relied on her impressive scores of 13.800 and 13.266 on the said apparatus to boost her final score to 50.399.
On the other hand, Kvamme made her Philippine debut count with a breakthrough. She showcased an impressive single vault of 13.766 en route to a final score of 48.765 – just barely making the cut for her first-ever Worlds.
Their performances also fueled Team Philippines’ fifth-place finish – again two spots shy of making the Worlds in the team event, similar to the men’s side – with a total score of 145.096.
Since China and Japan automatically qualified for the Worlds later this year, two more teams can qualify from Asia through this competition. Korea and Chinese Taipei, who won silver and bronze behind China, secured the two mentioned tickets.
