Asi Taulava will be playing his 25th year in the Philippine Basketball Association.
NLEX has announced that the 2003 PBA Most Valuable Player will have one last run with its team for the upcoming 2021-22 Governors’ Cup.
According to Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao, he needed to call up the 6-foot-9 big man as Raul Soyud and Kris Porter are nursing injuries.
“We felt the need to have him there because we’re lacking in size,” Guiao told Arangkada NLEX.
“We have two of our players still on their way to recovery from separate injuries and we need that extra big body out there, especially against June Mar Fajardo on Wednesday.”
Soyud is recovering after undergoing an arthroscopic operation while Porter is still recovering from an Achilles injury.
Taulava, 48, did not play a game during the Philippine Cup. And Guiao is not expecting much from the Fil-Tongan.
“For his age, he’s in tip-top shape,” added Guiao.
“If he can hold his own for five, six minutes a game, that’s already a contribution.”
