Aquino sees just three min as Shinshu absorbs sweep in B.League

Shinshu could not solve the puzzle that is Utsunomiya, suffering a 61-83 rout in the 2021-22 B.League Division I tournament, Sunday at White Ring.

Unlike their 63-72 loss yesterday, the Brave Warriors struggled in the second and third quarters, mustering just single digits in those two frames.

Shinshu shot just 4-of-16 from the field in the second quarter for nine points. And it got worse in the third canto, going just 3-of-14 from the field in that span for six points.

Utsunomiya led 66-41 entering the final stanza.

Brex’s lead would not fall to below 19 points in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Utsunomiya, who hiked their record to 11-5, was led by the 27 points of Chase Fieler. He shot 11-of-15 from the field.

Josh Scott tallied 19 points and nine rebounds while Makoto Hiejima added 12 points.

Bradon Jawato was not in Brex’s lineup.

Yuta Okada had 22 points to lead Shinshu while Josh Hawkinson got 15 points and eight rebounds.

Matthew Aquino only played in the second quarter, attempting just one shot in almost three minutes of game time.

The Brave Warriors head to Ota City Athletic Park Citizen’s Gymnasium next weekend to face Gunma.
